Bijoumiyo: Freestyle funk
UK five-piece funk, rock and soul jam-band Bijoumiyo offer a unique new experience in live music - freestyle funk.
Influenced by a range of renowned artists such as James Brown, Santana, Funkadelic and Herbie Hancock, Bijoumiyo continue to captivate their audiences with electric live shows comprising largely of original material that is - amazingly - improvised completely from scratch.
Bijoumiyo highlights include performing at Sakhir Racing Circuit (for the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix), multiple features on Craig Charles' hugely popular Funk & Soul show on BBC Radio 6, and the honour of being nominated as a finalist in the best UK soul/funk/jazz act category at the INDY Music Awards. This is along with 500+ live appearances across UK, Europe and the Middle-East including many esteemed venues such as London's world famous 100 Club, Paris' Le Pompon and even an impromptu overnight recording session at the Official Royal Residence, Manama, Bahrain.
Fronted by Myles Sanko on vocals/percussion, with MJ Jones on bass, Raymond Groovier on drums, Nash on guitar and Mr Nice Peterson on keys, Bijoumiyo can collectively redefine the boundaries of the modern-day live band with the ability to react, and even spontaneously compose their live performance according to the crowd.
Starting out as street buskers in Cambridge, late 2006, the band has since built up a strong online presence reflected in their considerable following across social networking sites MySpace, Twitter and Facebook, as well as their central website here at www.bijoumiyo.com.
